Essex law firm announces promotion

BIRKETT Long has announced the promotion of solicitor, Muntech Kaur, to Associate.

Muntech is a solicitor in the South Essex family team, based in the Basildon office. She joined Birkett Long in October 2016, having previously worked at a West London firm for a number of years. Muntech is an accredited member of the Law Society’s Family Law Panel and has been an accredited member of the Family Law Advanced Panel scheme in the areas of Children Law – Private, and Violence in the Home since 2016.

Muntech is a member and office holder of the Society of Asian Lawyers. She has also been appointed as a member of the Law Society’s Ethnic Minority Lawyers Division. Muntech has been part of the Law Society’s brand campaign and her picture has been appearing all over the country, including on Newcastle’s Metro and the London Underground.

Muntech completed her degree at Middlesex University and her Legal Practice Course at College of Law, London. Since her qualification in 2005, Muntech has dealt with a broad spectrum of family work. She has worked on just about everything from divorce, including international divorces, working with victims of domestic violence, international child abduction, care proceedings, high net worth cases and has completed financial proceedings involving multiple interveners. Muntech has had two reported cases relating to care proceedings and permanent removal from the jurisdiction.

Muntech is delighted to become an Associate and says: “Birkett Long’s reputation as investors in people has certainly reflected my experience from the outset. The firm strives to value its staff. Whilst we are spread across three offices, everyone will go out of their way to know one another irrespective of whether you are in the same office or same department. As large as the firm is, I believe that it still maintains a close knit feel. Dare I say, I feel like I am part of the “Birkett Long family.” The firm has a nurturing and friendly environment. I enjoy working for a forward thinking and innovative firm that is Essex’s biggest multi service Legal 500 law firm.”

Outside of work Muntech volunteers for Nishkam SWAT in their homeless outreach project. Since 2017, she has been a Committee Member for Society of Asian Lawyers (SAL) which has the biggest membership of BAME lawyers. In December 2018, she was elected SAL’s Company Secretary. She is a co-opted member for the Law Society’s Ethic Minority Lawyers Division (EMLD), having taken on this office in March 2019.

While her work life is dealing with relationship breakdowns, hopefully this is balanced out as she volunteers at a West London matrimonial service.

Birkett Long has offices in Chelmsford, Colchester, Basildon and London. With 26 partners, it provides a wide range of legal and independent financial services for business including corporate and commercial advice, dispute resolution, education, insolvency, intellectual property and employment and for individuals: wills and conveyancing, family law, independent financial advice, dispute resolution and accident and negligence claims.
